Barb came aboard fulltime in 1995 to be our resident "bean counter" as well as working in sales. Before that time, Barb was working in the office part-time while earning her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and graduated Gwynedd-Mercy College of Gwynedd Valley, PA in 1992. |

As a teenager in the early 1960's, Richard
'Butch' Kaelin worked as a tool and die maker in the Lansdale area. After
marrying Beth in 1964, the newlyweds moved to Souderton and started R. L.
Kaelin - a small company devoted to tool & die making, stamping and other
machine shop oriented services. The garage was soon proving to be too small
and word was spreading about Butch. It would soon become his company slogan
"Quality and Service First." Beth even operated a small kick press in their
kitchen at the time while tending to their growing family, thus teaching the
kids how multi-tasking was REALLY done!
After moving to Quarry Road in Telford in 1968, groundbreaking began. Butch added saw cutting and several other operations to his repertoire. Soon one shop became two. In the 1970's, the local steel supplier, North Penn Steel went out of business. R. L. Kaelin along with other machine shops were forced to go out of the local area to buy steel. At the suggestion of many clients who were also local machine shops, fellow tool and die makers, etc, Butch started stocking a few sizes of steel as a convenience. Beth worked sales and purchasing in the office. The stock area started growing in leaps and bounds and a decision had to be made about the direction of the company. In the mid 1970's, the warehouse construction began followed by the new name of the company, Kaelin Steel Service, Inc. in March, 1977. Born into the industry, the kids worked evenings and summers while in their school years familiarizing themselves with paperwork, jobs, etc. As graduations came and went, the company grew with new employees with new ideas and plans. Kaelin Steel Service established themselves as a steel service center of cold rolled and hot rolled steel and was able to buy in larger volumes from the mill in order to bring that savings to customers over the years. Quite a few customers are still in the customer list that have seen the growth from the beginning. Some customers even remember when Mike was just 'that baby in the playpen in the office' and now he's filling their order and loading their truck. In 1990, and a couple more building additions later, RPM Mfg Inc became official and Matt Kaelin evolved from steel handling to sheet metal fabricating. His hands-on learning in the industry from a young age proved to be an asset as he started working more in the fabricating shop. The early 2000's brought another change. Butch and Beth started a retail store Southwest Trading Post. Butch never was one to sit still for very long. He is seen making deliveries for Kaelin Steel and maintains his role as President of the corporation. In the past few years, after 40 years of working in the industry, Beth has chosen to work at the store and get into some other pursuits these days, while Pam and Barb take care of the office back at Kaelin Steel. In 2010, Pam was named General Manager. While this decade is still new and the industry has certainly proved to be both challenging and exciting, we are constantly looking toward the future and how we, as three generations working together, will adapt to it. |

Matt started full time with Kaelin Steel in 1991. When RPM Mfg, our fabricating company, was introduced in 1995, Matt focused more of his energies in that direction. Multi-tasking with both companies, he is proficient with sheetmetal fabrication and aims for winning performances with every job! |

Mike, our strong and silent warehouse guy, came aboard in 2006. This introduced the 3rd generation into Kaelin Steel Service. Mike not only "plays" with the trucks, loading and unloading, he also is responsible for making sure orders are filled both correctly and promptly. |
